Why Cloud Pet exists
The story of Cloud, the dog who gave the app its name, and of the question nobody in the family wanted to ask again: "did you already give the pill?"
Cloud is a dog. A terrier and spitz mix, white and chocolate brown, calm and sweet. He’s eleven years old. He’s the one who gave this app its name, and that’s not a figure of speech: Cloud really exists.
As in every family that lives with a pet, there are many people around Cloud: Roberto, whoever lives with him, sometimes a pet sitter, now and then a grandparent who just wants to know how he is. And as in every family, the same two questions kept coming back: “did you take him out?” and “did you give him the pill?”
The problem wasn’t memory
It wasn’t that someone forgot. It was that nobody could know what the others had done. The answers lived in chats, on a sheet of paper, in the head of whoever had just finished. And the wrong answer, for a pill, is worth more than an annoyance.
On the other side there was the vet visit: the patient’s file in your head, vaccine dates to dig out of photos, reports in the strangest places. Preparing a visit from memory cost far more than it should have.
A warm app, not a form
The pet apps we found all had the same flaw: they looked like a clinic. Hospital blue, paw icons from a library, tables. But someone opening the app at 11 p.m. to check whether anyone already gave Cloud his flea treatment isn’t consulting a patient chart: they’re thinking about a dog who loves them.
That’s why Cloud Pet has the colors of Cloud’s coat, chocolate and honey, lots of space, large type and a simple goal: that nobody in the circle has to ask “did you give it?” again, and that the vet visit gets prepared in thirty seconds instead of from memory.
What we chose not to do
- No accounts. You don’t need to sign up to use Cloud Pet.
- No ads and no tracking tools in the apps.
- No medical advice. The app records what the vet decided; it gives no diagnoses or doses.
Where we are
Cloud Pet is an app by Stars S.r.l., for iPhone and Android. Free for one pet, with Premium to share the profile. This site and this blog exist for two reasons: to say who we are, and to write the things we wish we had read when we started caring for Cloud.
